Python Job: Database Administrator

Location: GTA, ON

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, implement, and maintain Db2 LUW and/or Netezza databases in non-production environments and deploy to production environments.
• Design and develop optimal solutions to migrate or upgrade existing Db2 LUW and/or Netezza databases to new platform or DBMS versions
• Monitor capacity, high-availability and performance for non-production and production databases to ensure they are highly reliable, efficient, cost effective, and provide the required functionality.
• Seeks opportunities to improve database performance by identifying tuning measures and implementing them when appropriate.
• Develops and maintains database backup and recovery strategy and procedures. Ensures that databases are properly backed up and recovered when necessary
• Ensures databases are properly maintained; databases are reorganized/groomed when necessary and other DBA utilities run when appropriate.
• Tests upgrades/new releases of database software and related products. Assesses impacts to application and the database environment.
• Plays contributor role in the testing and evaluating of new database products and tools. This includes the determination of their applicability to the database environment.
• Provides input to database technology direction setting and decision-making by formulating options, identifying issues, and making recommendations.

Requirements:

• At least two years of hands-on experience with Db2 LUW and/or Netezza within the last five years.
• Knowledge of physical database design, capacity planning, security planning, backup and recovery systems, operating systems, data modeling, query language
• Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and maintain large Db2 and/or Netezza databases.
• Good knowledge of the OS (Linux, Windows)
• Solid knowledge of Db2 LUW, DPF, HADR and Netezza appliances
• Solid knowledge and practical experience of physical database design, backup recovery best practice/scenarios and security features
• Practical experience with Db2 and/or Netezza basic features, utilities, SQL language, query explain plan
• Understanding of various aspects of DB2 LUW and Netezza Database Administration.
• Practical experiences with Db2 and/or Netezza upgrade or migration

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $40.00-$50.00 per hour
